Scope and content: A wide variety of materials concerning the political life of Nashville, Tenn., mostly from the late twentieth century, and focusing on political candidates and specific political issues. Election materials are arranged by year and thereunder subdivided into the categories of "candidates" and "issues." Other items include materials from political parties, presidential races, newsletters, and voting guides. Quantity of materials ranges from a single item to several folders. Most folders contain less than five items, and often only a single item.

Series I. Elections includes most years from 1971-1988 and 2006-2008, with a large gap from 1990-2005. Some of the more prominent candidates in these materials include: Richard Fulton; Bill Boner; Lamar Alexander; Bob Clement; Karl Dean; and Howard Gentry. Issues-focused materials concern taxes and constitution and charter amendments. Most items in this series consist of mailers, brochures, or flyers distributed to potential voters.

Series II. Parties include Democrats, Green Party, and Republicans, as organized on the state or local level. Series III. Presidents includes items related to Al Gore Jr.'s campaign for president in 2000 and a historical and statistical summary of how Tennessee has voted in presidential elections from 1789-1964. An invitation to the inaugeration of William Howard Taft in 1909 is also included, as is a caricature of Lyndon Baines Johnson. Series IV. Newsletters are generally from sitting office holders in the Tennessee General Assembly, or the United States Congress, and are designed to keep constituents and supporters informed. Al Gore, Sr. and Avon Williams, Jr. are among those represented. Series V. Voting Guides provide information about voting laws and procedures, locations, and dates of elections in Nashville.
